An englishman in Paris

samedi, septembre 23, 2006

I had a nice day out at the rugby, the weather was very good to start with, but after a while the sky became covered and the temperature dropped a wee bit.

The stadium is next door to the PSG (Paris St Germain) football club ground and there were footy supporters mingling with the rugby ones.

I was sitting with a good view round about fifteen yds from the touchline on the 22yd line - in the résumé of the match on t.v, i can be seen jumping up and down as the last try goes over.

The match got off to a flying start by stade français who were leading six-nil within the first three minutes. Bourguoin came back quickly with a drop and a penalty after a handling error within the 22 yd line.

Although Le Stade pushed hard and had to fight back advances from the adversaries, the first try came after fifteen minutes down the left flank after a huge effort by Bergamasco and the conversion by Skrela.

At half time the teams went in with Le Stade leading 22-12 (quite a comfortable-ish lead).

Bourgoin were straight out of the blocks and progressively reduced the score - in the last ten minutes, Le Stade were on the verge of an upset with only a very likely try+drop/penalty giving the match to Bourgoin.

At the death, Bourgoin screwed up a lineout on the thirty metre line, Le stade capitalised and broke through to take an extra point for a fourth try.

There now follows a series of rugby photos ;@)
