The P.A.F

I'm very lucky to be working were i do : just next to the Champs-Elysées.

I can see l'arc de triomphe at one end, Place de la Concorde at the other end and the Eiffel Tower just behind me.

In our quartier we are surrounded by radio stations, casting agencies, model agencies, top notch restauraunts and so on ... it's not as though i go and have lunch at Fouquets or the Tour d'argent, but still, it's cool in an un-showy kinda way.

It's therefore not unusual to cross people that we see on t.v or hear on the radio; des personnages du p.a.f (people from the paysage audiovisuel française - as we say).

So yesterday's event, whilst exceptional and not the norm, i suppose it could be construed as in someways inevitable - a few weeks ago we even had a journalist from a womans' magazine wanting to interview clients who have used our services in the past and who have deemed the experience a success.

However ... today we got a call from a very popular, young, t.v presentator who wants to do a segment about how difficult it is to admit to a weakness and to decide to finally bite the bullet and seek help to deal with, in our case, communication difficulties ...

He wants to interview people on Thursday, with the programme going out either this Sunday or Sunday next week.

I just don't know why, i never volonteer and i generally try to steer clear of stuff like this; i'm just not into strass et paillettes i'm too down to earth and pragmatic to be interested in it all.

Never-the-less, i've spent all day on the phone and sending e-mails - courriels - to our (not just my) clients who might be interested/interesting.

The aim being to build up a bit of a rosta for when he comes, it's gonna be the same tomorrow and i'm gonna have to probably corral them all around, all day Thursday.

On the one hand it is something out of the ordinary, but i'm just not getting my 'proper' job done, i.e, bringing home the bacon.

At the same time, my boss is saying "you know, i reckon you'd be a good interviewee, think of the publicity it will bring us" ... to which i replied "ha, i was thinking the same thing about you !! I'm sure you'd look good on t.v" ... flattery can get you anywhere, or so i've always been led to believe ....

la guerre des nerfs commence ;-)
