French press news dump
What Monsieur & Madame Dupont are reading over the breakfast table this morning ...
Not a whisper, nary a word on news casts this week about the presidential pardon given by Chirac to an ancient minister. Guy Drut was found guilty in 2005 for insider dealing/kickbacks on public building contracts. He was fined 50K€ and given a 15 month suspended prison sentence - Chi-Chi has wiped the slate clean ... you can bet Chimpy, Kkkkarl and Darth Cheney have been taking notes
Every one is till bonkers about Cannes with the Palme D'or being announced this evening ... oohhh i can't wait ... rumours are circulating that Dédé might even be up for a gong for his latest movie where he sings .. saints preserve us.
The front pages are dominated by last nights friendly against Mexico - predictably, if the score isn't double-figures / o the press is depressed and Les Bleus are useless wastrels and have no chance - i agree with one element however: the french 'fans' are crap ... you just don't boo and hiss your own team, at home.
Is France healthy ? Is there a north/ south divide ? - A team of researchers have put together a health atlas with some interesting results : aids in the Parisien region is usually sexually transmitted, whereas in the south, it's drug user related. If we could place a line from Le Havre to Perpignan, we would find a higher level of cancer and diabetes in the north eastern regions...
There was shock this week when we learned that the PDG of Michelin died whilst he was out on a fishing trip ... luckily a successor is on hand to take the reins ... so that's all right then
Finally, it's not really news to people outside of France, but according to this survey, french people are the most inhospitable, least generous and most miserable people on the planet .... pfffft ... it's a bit like me saying that the U.S has no style and the worst food of all places ... oops, that's exactly what the survey said.
